Our name, JOYA, evokes joy, elegance, and the preciousness of moments well-lived. In Chinese, 禧玥 (Xǐ Yuè) carries deeper resonance: 禧 signifies auspicious blessing and heartfelt celebration, while 玥 refers to a luminous pearl—a symbol of rarity, refinement, and inner light. Together, they reflect our founding promise: to offer guests a sanctuary where every detail is curated to inspire tranquility, connection, and enduring memories.
Rooted in Jiading’s Cultural Soul
Jiading is no ordinary district. For over eight centuries, it has been a cradle of scholarship, artistry, and spiritual reflection—home to the revered Confucius Temple, the serene waters of Guyi Garden, and the cobblestone charm of Zhouqiao Old Street. When we selected No. 100 Bole Road as our home, we did so with profound reverence for this legacy. We envisioned a hotel that would not simply occupy space in Jiading, but would belong to it—drawing inspiration from its lantern-lit alleys, its ink-wash landscapes, and its enduring spirit of wen (culture) and ya (elegance).
Our architectural journey began with a simple question: How might we translate the soul of a classical Chinese garden into a contemporary hospitality experience? The answer unfolded through close collaboration with acclaimed designer Vermilion Zhu, whose visionary approach honors tradition without imitation. Every curve of our atrium, every textured stone pathway, every carefully framed view of bamboo and koi was designed to evoke the yi jing (artistic conception) of a scholar’s retreat—a place where time slows, the senses awaken, and the mind finds clarity.

JOYA Hotel Jia Ding is home to just 89 rooms and suites—a deliberate choice that prioritizes intimacy over scale, quality over quantity. Each space tells a chapter of our story: minimalist furnishings crafted from natural woods, hand-embroidered textiles echoing Jiangnan motifs, intelligent lighting that mimics the gentle shift of daylight, and bathrooms inspired by onsen serenity. Floor-to-ceiling windows invite the garden inward, blurring the boundary between interior calm and exterior beauty.
Our four dining venues further express our philosophy of “culinary storytelling.” Jia Ding Garden celebrates hyper-local ingredients and ancestral recipes; Jiading Mansion refines Cantonese artistry with seasonal precision; Bie Yuan transforms teppanyaki into theatrical communion; and Xi Xiang welcomes mornings with a harmonious fusion of Eastern and Western breakfast traditions.
